Project Description:
Support seniors in middle Tennessee, who spent most of their time alone, by encouraging them through monthly phone calls. You will be able to check in and have a conversation with these seniors, listening to their concerns, sharing stories and offer them encouragement.
Project Purpose:
The Area Agency on Aging and Disability works with many seniors in the area. Seniors who are participants in any of our programs can opt in to receive friendly reassurance phone calls from volunteers, so they may have the opportunity to talk with someone on the phone on a regular basis. Volunteers can make a real difference in the lives of seniors, providing vital contact, overcoming the isolation and depression often present in older adults.
Key Duties:
- Call your assigned clients on a regular schedule
- Conduct all phone conversations with clients in a professional manner
- Keep any information about the client’s personal or health information confidential
- Contact your supervisor immediately if there is a concern about the well-being of a client.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Complete the required initial training and sign all required documents
- Successfully pass a background screening process
- Required update training: None required, but materials and update training to specific topics will be offered and are encouraged.
- Skills necessary to be successful in this role: Have a heart for working with the Elderly, good listening and communication skills, be respectful to the client’s mood and needs.
Location of volunteer job:
You can make calls from the Metro Center office or your own home.
Commitment per month:
A minimum of four hours per month for this volunteer role is suggested.
