As an organization we mourn with those who have lost a loved one through the deadly tornados this past weekend. We were in contact with the mayors of all affected communities on Saturday to offer our support - either through our volunteer program or in the planning for longer-term recovery. We will update this post as more needs and information become apparent over the next days, weeks and month.

Donating to disaster relief

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and United Way created relief funds to assist those impacted by the Dec. 9 tornadoes. The two organizations are supporting recovery efforts in Cheatham, Dickson, Montgomery, Robertson and Sumner Counties through the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund. The funds raised provide critical support to nonprofit and faith-based organizations actively working to address survivors' needs, and address urgent needs such as financial assistance, food and nutrition, temporary housing, debris clean-up and animal sheltering.

Things to keep in mind when signing up to volunteer:

  • Please be patient. You will be contacted when there is a need.
  • Do NOT self-deploy. Resist the urge to respond before being assigned.
  • Recovery and volunteer needs can last for months or years post disaster.
