Happy Fall!

We are excited to share with you the impact GNRC volunteers have made in the community in the third quarter of 2023! We hope that seeing the overall impact will inspire and encourage you on your own volunteer journey. It is great to see that even with all that summer travel, you all were active in making our community better. Together, we can make a huge difference!

This quarter we added 156 new users to the volunteer portal. Welcome! We are thrilled to have you be part of our volunteer network and find a place to give back through GNRC or with our partner agencies. Thank you for being so passionate about making Middle Tennessee a better place for all.

We had 323 active individual volunteers in the third quarter of 2023, who gave 4,246 hours of their most precious resource - time - to make a difference in their community. Thank you so much for spending your time doing good with us!

GNRC's Medicare Counseling team is in the middle of their busy time of year preparing plan comparisons during the Annual Enrollment Period. However, they were very active throughout the summer month as well. Thanks for your dedication to helping beneficiaries with all their Medicare questions! Volunteers counseled 2,027 clients one-on-one, staffed 22 outreach events, and gave eight presentations in the community in the last quarter. They also kept up with their certifications and annual training. We are proud of you for staying knowledgeable on all things Medicare and ensuring any beneficiaries with questions can benefit from that wealth of knowledge. In total, volunteers have contributed 2,552 hours to the Medicare Counseling Program.

The Guardianship program provides such an important service for adults who can no longer make their own financial, personal, and property decisions and do not have anyone in their close circle who can act as a conservator for them. The clients in the program greatly benefit from volunteers who spend time with them and help them stay connected. Often, volunteers provide companionship and support to a client until the very last days of their journey. We are so grateful for your kind, caring spirit and for the love you show these clients through your presence.

This quarter, we had 11 Friendly Visitors who spent 98 hours making 79 visits to their assigned clients for the Guardianship program. 15 Guardianship clients were able to benefit from those visits. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and the friendship you provide to our clients! Maintaining social connections is important as we age and leads to better overall health and care for our clients.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the letter campaign during the last quarter. We love seeing your creative and heartfelt letters and the smiles on the residents' faces who get to receive them! We are pleased to report that 1,799 individuals received 4,217 letters in the third quarter of 2023! Thank you for spreading joy and kindness and uplifting seniors and disabled individuals through your letters! Together, we have sent a total of 81,110 letters since the campaign started in April 2020. Thank you for your continued support!

We are grateful for a new volunteer opportunity with our information and assistance program. GNRC's Information and Assistance program provides a helpline designed to assist seniors and adults with disabilities navigate through community resources and the long-term care system by providing information, referrals, and assessments. The helpline is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 615-255-1010. One volunteer spent 18 hours making follow-up calls to clients and providing referrals and assistance. Thank you for going through intensive training and offering your time to help others.

Thank you to the wonderful Communications volunteers who gave 18 hours of their time helping write, compose, and take photographs at GNRC's Annual Meeting in September. You can see the event photos here and learn more about our event!

To our Administrative Volunteers, it is great to see your friendly faces in the office assisting with various administrative projects! Your help goes a long way to getting projects completed and keeping us organized. We are grateful for your dedication and attention to detail as you work on these tasks. Thank you!

In August, the Arts Build Community Grant Review Panel volunteers spent 35 hours reviewing grant applications, scoring them, deliberating, and then drafting recommendations for the Tennessee Arts Commission for funding. Thank you for your dedication to the Arts in Middle Tennessee.

Thank you for choosing to make an impact in Middle Tennessee through volunteering! We are glad to have each of you here! You help us broaden our reach and make our communities better. We are proud of all you have accomplished this past quarter and hope you are too!
