Who We Are
TN SHIP stands for Tennessee State Health Insurance Assistance Program. TN SHIP' s goal is to provide free, non-biased, personalized counseling and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and their families who need help in navigating their way through the Medicare program.
SHIP does NOT sell insurance or represent any insurance company and is striving to provide understandable and objective information to Medicare beneficiaries on a wide range of health insurance issues. Research shows that people prefer to receive information about Medicare through one-on-one counseling.
TN SHIP staff, along with its volunteers, plays a vital role in education and outreach of the Medicare program.
What We Do
In order to provide the type of one-on-one counseling to beneficiaries that has proven most effective TN SHIP relies on volunteers to reach more members of the community. It is because of volunteer's willingness to help others that TN SHIP is able to provide this much needed assistance.
We know the program is not an easy program to volunteer for. Medicare is a complex program and it can be intimidating to discuss health insurance with a client. However, volunteering with this program is very rewarding. You will truly have a profound impact on someone's life when you help them apply for an assistance program, or save them hundreds, even thousands of dollars on their prescription medications.
Different volunteer opportunities are available within the program and intensive training and shadowing will be available for all volunteers.
