Volunteer: Help a young adult prepare for College/Career (Big Futures Program)

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee (BBBSMT) is dedicated to ensuring all youth achieve their full potential through one-to-one mentoring relationships. Mentorship changes lives on both sides of the relationship, helping youth build confidence, succeed academically, and envision new possibilities. Help prepare young adults for college and careers in this program that focuses on transitional periods.


The Big Futures program includes two primary opportunities, E-Mentoring for high school students and the College Advancement Program (CAP) for college students. You'll help them develop personal, academic, and career skills, as well as essential life-skills and financial literacy guidance. This model is designed for flexibility, often utilizing hybrid or virtual check-ins.


Ages of Littles: Ages 16–22. E-Mentoring Focus (High School): Help high school students develop personal, academic, and career skills. CAP Focus (College): Prepare students to persist & succeed in their college journey. Time Commitment: Mostly virtual, with a few in-person visits per semester/school year. Duration: 1–2 academic year commitment. You're a Great Fit If (E-Mentoring): You're interested in the flexibility of hybrid mentoring and want to help a teen navigate entering adulthood. You're a Great Fit If (CAP): You're a college graduate with at least two years of professional experience and are excited to help a college student in a variety of life-skills development.

By becoming a Big, you can be the steady, fun, encouraging presence that helps youth build confidence and know they've got someone in their corner every step of the way.


Our Site-Based program is perfect for those who want a predictable schedule and enjoy low-key, fun activities right at a local school or community site. As a Site-Based Mentor, you will be a consistent, positive presence in a child's life by showing up regularly for one-on-one time, helping them to uphold strong academic performance and building positive school connectedness. It’s a low-pressure, high-impact way to help a child build social competence and family connectedness.

Ages of Littles: Ages 6–13. Time Commitment: 1 hour, 2–3 times per month, only when school is in session. Duration: A minimum of a one-year commitment. Location: Meet at the same local school or community site every visit. Activities: Play board games, make crafts, and hang out at a local school. You're a Great Fit If: You want to be able to meet with your Little during or after the school day and like the consistency of driving to the same location every week.
