Hello Everyone!
I wanted to let you know that I am back from maternity leave. Most of you already know me, but if you have joined us more recently - welcome to GNRC's volunteer program!
I am looking forward to working with all of you and helping you make the most of your time volunteering. Please know, I am available if you have any questions or need some help scheduling your volunteer time. Here are some things we have coming up:
Volunteer Orientation
We have an Orientation for Volunteers coming up on November 20th at 1pm and I would love to see you there, if you haven't already been part of a previous session. You can RSVP by clicking here. The Volunteer Orientation is the perfect opportunity for you to learn more about all the different ways you can get involved and to meet other like-minded individuals.

Become a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program Trainer
We are also planning to host a training for anyone interested in becoming a trainer for The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) in January 2020. CDSMP is a six-week workshop designed to empower patients living with a chronic condition by improving their skills in medical and emotional management as well as role management. It is one of the most well-studied, evidence-based self-management programs available, backed up by over 20 years of federally funded research. It is also one of the most highly adopted self-management programs worldwide, offered by numerous organizations in at least 19 countries. Subjects covered in the general CDSMP workshop include:
- Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation
- Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
- Appropriate use of medications
- Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
- Nutrition
- Decision making
- How to evaluate new treatments
The initial training in January would be four full days of training at GNRC. After the initial training at GNRC with Gayle you would need to complete two 6-week workshops to be certified as a trainer. Training will be provided free of charge. If you are interested in becoming a trainer for this program, please reach out to me at rnofi@gnrc.org. Once we have the group of interested participants we will finalize dates.
I hope to see you soon and a huge thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers for your service!
Warmly,
Rebecca Nofi
Volunteer Coordinator at GNRC
