Happy Fall!
This is the first of a new volunteer newsletter series that will come to you four times a year. We want to use this newsletter to share updates and especially focus on your impact over the last quarter. Seeing the impact you have made in numbers is truly powerful - pretty amazing what we can do when we all come together towards the single goal of making our communities better. Thank you for choosing to do so with GNRC!
Last quarter, we were excited to have welcomed 117 new volunteers! We are also working on growing our network of partners and currently have 17 in the volunteer portal who can share their opportunities with you. Thank you to all of you who have shared about our volunteer portal and volunteer opportunities with your network. Your referrals mean a lot.
The volunteer opportunity that has created the most buzz between July and September is the Letter Campaign. The goal of the campaign is to bring joy to the seniors and disabled community members in nursing homes and assisted living facilities across middle Tennessee and to help combat some of the detrimental social isolation so many are feeling. Thank you for making a difference one letter at a time. Last quarter, 2,512 letters were sent, which puts us at 32,843 letters since the start of the letter campaign launched in April 2020. Many of you are already working on Holiday letters and we are grateful. Here are some of the happy faces of a few recipients who were excited to receive your letters:
If you are interested in participating to write letters you can sign up for the monthly rounds through the opportunities tab of the volunteer portal.
Our Medicare Counseling volunteers are currently in their busy season of Open Enrollment helping beneficiaries with Drug Plan Comparisons, but they weren't idle during the summer either! Volunteers provided free and unbiased Medicare information and counseling to 1,953 beneficiaries setting them up to make well informed healthcare decisions. Other TNSHIP volunteers helped with large amounts of data entry, a big mailing to beneficiaries that went out in September, courtesy calls to beneficiaries, several events and other administrative tasks. Thank you for the many hours spent doing these important tasks to support the program on the backend. If you or someone you know would like help navigating the Medicare maze feel free to direct them to the TNSHIP hotline 877-801-0044.
While we need to get better at capturing the impact our Communications Volunteers have made in numbers, I wanted to give a shout out to those of you who have created graphics, proofread publications, wrote social media posts, took headshots, event photographs and area photographs. You all have done an amazing job! Don't forget to check out the graphic of the beautiful holiday cards by Shaina featured below.
Summed up we had 249 volunteers who participated in activities last quarter and gave a total of 3,941 hours of their time across all GNRC opportunities. Thank you!
